Summary

The Dragon Reborn—the leader long prophesied who will save the world, but in the saving destroy it; the savior who will run mad and kill all those dearest to him—is on the run from his destiny。

Able to touch the One Power, but unable to control it, and with no one to teach him how—for no man has done it in three thousand years—Rand al'Thor knows only that he must face the Dark One。 But how?

Winter has stopped the war—almost—yet men are dying, calling out for the Dragon。 But where is he?

Perrin Aybara is in pursuit with Moiraine Sedai, her Warder Lan, and Loial the Ogier。 Bedeviled by dreams, Perrin is grappling with another deadly problem—how is he to escape the loss of his own humanity?

Egwene, Elayne and Nynaeve are approaching Tar Valon, where Mat will be healed—if he lives until they arrive。 But who will tell the Amyrlin their news—that the Black Ajah, long thought only a hideous rumor, is all too real? They cannot know that in Tar Valon far worse awaits。。。

Ahead, for all of them, in the Heart of the Stone, lies the next great test of the Dragon reborn。。。。

Best Book Yet*tugs on braid* This series starts off slow and I was really unsure if I was going to like it but the Wheel of Time is starting to grow on me。 This was by far the best book thus far。 I loved the exploration of other characters rather than focusing on Rand。 *sharply tugs on braid*

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I don't think Jordan was a good story-teller。 I'm quite disappointed with how the stories of the many characters interwove (or didn't) with that of Rand, the main character, and how the many plots tied (or didn't) together at the climax of the book。 (Is each book going to culminate in Rand duelling with someone? Isn't it a bit repetitive?)I was scratching my head: why did Jordan bother dragging Mat, Perrin, Egwene, Elayne and Nynaeve to Tear if they didn't end up playing a role in Rand's retriev I don't think Jordan was a good story-teller。 I'm quite disappointed with how the stories of the many characters interwove (or didn't) with that of Rand, the main character, and how the many plots tied (or didn't) together at the climax of the book。 (Is each book going to culminate in Rand duelling with someone? Did Jordan bring them there only so they could save one another? Wouldn't it be more clever if each played some, even small, role and contributed to Rand's victory? If their presence there had a point? Also, I fully expected to see the 13 Aes Sedai and 13 Myrdrall at least assembling and taking a stab at converting Rand。 They were nowhere to be seen! Such a waste of foreshadowing! It's like that gun on the wall in the first act that in the last act DOESN'T fire!Anyway, at the end of the book, I was getting a bit impatient, so I may have missed some nuances, but the story left me at the point where I don't particularly care about them anymore。 And what about those characters that act like their own caricatures。 A guy bursts in to save your life and you scold him instead of being overjoyed? Am I missing something? I still like fantasy, but maybe I'm too old for this。。。 。。。more

I enjoyed the new perspectives introduced in this book, and I enjoyed how the stories all came together。 Many storylines were resolved, to some degree, while leaving the door open to further journeys。

Fantastic page turner Honestly this is becoming one of my favorite fantasy series。 I am ready to start book 4 without delay。 The writing is done so well and it is improving with each consecutive book。 If you haven’t started the series yet and worried it is too long, don’t be。 It is well worth it and entertaining beyond expectations。

A thrilling read, from start to end。 The book is titled The Dragon Reborn, but Rand actually takes a back seat to the story this time。 Characters who used to bare more minor roles in the first two books are now fleshed out, such as Perrin, Egwene, and Mat。 The plot took everything good from the first two entries and then added some。 There's everything you would want; action, exploration and new locations, a new epic hunt/chance, mysteries, additions to the magic system, phenomenal world building A thrilling read, from start to end。 The book is titled The Dragon Reborn, but Rand actually takes a back seat to the story this time。 Characters who used to bare more minor roles in the first two books are now fleshed out, such as Perrin, Egwene, and Mat。 The plot took everything good from the first two entries and then added some。 There's everything you would want; action, exploration and new locations, a new epic hunt/chance, mysteries, additions to the magic system, phenomenal world building, etc etc。One thing that completely surprised me about this book were my love for Mat's pov chapters。 I disliked Mat's character in the first two books, finding him to be an annoying side character。 My stance quickly changed once I got to have chapters with his thoughts。 He's hilarious! He is cunning, witty, and has a great sense of humor。 Mat's character is usually the type of character I embrace in role playing games or board games; it's fun, and Mat's perspective is fun to read。 In short, I totally "vibe" with Mat's character now。This book was by far my favorite in the series so far, and I'm looking forward to reading more。 If someone was having doubts about the series after book one, I would tell them to at least read up through book three。 。。。more

Another strong entry in the Wheel of Time。 The world continues to expand, the characters continue to grow more interesting, and Jordan plays on cliche skilfully to craft a compelling tale。My main complaint with The Dragon Reborn is that it does feel like it revisits some of the same territory as the previous books。 (view spoiler)[At the end of the third book, Rand for the third time mistakenly believes he has defeated the Dark One。 I do hope that in the next one this is not the conclusion again。 Another strong entry in the Wheel of Time。 The world continues to expand, the characters continue to grow more interesting, and Jordan plays on cliche skilfully to craft a compelling tale。My main complaint with The Dragon Reborn is that it does feel like it revisits some of the same territory as the previous books。 (view spoiler)[At the end of the third book, Rand for the third time mistakenly believes he has defeated the Dark One。 I do hope that in the next one this is not the conclusion again。 Similarly, Rand is once again proclaimed the Dragon Reborn to the surprise and worship of those around。 This may be to do with the world's scale – word hasn't travelled that far across the world beyond rumour and whispers, so I guess this is believable。 Nynaeve, Egwene and Elaine make a seemingly terrible plan to go to Tear to intentionally walk right into the trap set by the Black Ajah, which echoes strongly of their previous foolish excursion out from the White Tower。 And when they'd only just got back! (hide spoiler)]In spite of these slightly repetitive-feeling points, generally the plot and character development we see in The Dragon Reborn is convincing and exciting。 The step away from Rand as the protagonist was really interesting: I think most often we do see 'the chosen one' stories from the perspective of the chosen one themselves, and so it was fun to see from one step removed the ripples spreading from Rand as the pattern weaves itself around him, and seeing the other characters rocked by those waves。 I really enjoyed finally getting to know Mat when he isn't sickly and nasty。 He remains the most self-centred of our protagonists, but it was fun watching him trying to justify why he was doing the kind things he did, and also embracing, in his own way, the peculiar pattern the Wheel weaves around him。 It was gratifying to see Rand, Mat and Perrin all gradually embracing their destinies a little more。 I was also very intrigued by what we did see of Rand: whether the shifts we see in him are the first hints of madness from his use of the One Power, or the result of knowing that the fate of the world rests heavily on him weighing, the Dragon is emerging distinct from the farm boy that left Emond's Field not so long ago。 I also really enjoyed the development of our cast of women。 Nynaeve has been a seriously frustrating character from the beginning of book one, and so the increasing friction between her and Egwene, who is becoming increasingly assertive and dominant, felt very much needed, and even in its most puerile moments, I felt it was very true to life。 These women do, however, make me wonder what it actually means to be Ta'veren, if these women who are so clearly extremely powerful and extremely special aren't themselves Ta'veren as well。。。(view spoiler)[I really enjoyed the conclusion with all the different story threads coming together in Tear, in the Stone。 In too many stories do authors suddenly and unbelievably join together the different plotlines for a dramatic conclusion。 However, subtle though it is, the use of Mat's luck, and of a Forsaken who makes chance and coincidence go crazy, was a really compelling way to suddenly bring together all the plot threads for the finale, making me feel slightly disturbed that the Forsaken's influence can have this kind of impact on the world, where I would normally just feel frustrated at these kind of things。 So kudos to you, Jordan。 (hide spoiler)]I am getting increasingly excited by this series as I go along。 Three down。 Only eleven to go。。。 。。。more

I think I preferred this book to The Great Hunt, even though the pacing of The Great Hunt was much better。 I think we got some fantastic character work for several MCs in this book, especially Mat。。。he has just blossomed in this book, and I'm all for it! I really enjoyed all the extra world building and cultures we got to see in this book, and in many instances this made up for the off pacing。 That being said, I do think the character development was highly focused on specific people like Mat, I think I preferred this book to The Great Hunt, even though the pacing of The Great Hunt was much better。 I think we got some fantastic character work for several MCs in this book, especially Mat。。。he has just blossomed in this book, and I'm all for it! This third entry in the Wheel of Time shows the story starting to expand as different prophecies/fore tellings/viewings are clarified。 Where the first two books -- The Eye of the World and The Great Hunt -- set the main protagonist, Rand al'Thor, onto his path to battle the Dark One, and had him accepting his role as the Dragon Reborn, this novel actually has him testing that idea by trying to fulfill or disprove one of the prophecies。 Much of the book has Rand off stage, and focuses on the seco This third entry in the Wheel of Time shows the story starting to expand as different prophecies/fore tellings/viewings are clarified。 Where the first two books -- The Eye of the World and The Great Hunt -- set the main protagonist, Rand al'Thor, onto his path to battle the Dark One, and had him accepting his role as the Dragon Reborn, this novel actually has him testing that idea by trying to fulfill or disprove one of the prophecies。 Much of the book has Rand off stage, and focuses on the secondary characters and how they are caught up in the main adventure, but still integral to events。 While the first two showed Rand struggling with and sometimes against his role, Jordan had not yet shown how the people from Emond's Field -- Mat Cauthon, Perrin Aybara, two more ta'veren (Pattern focuses) like Rand himself, along with Egwene, and Nynaeve, along with the Daughter-Heir of Andor, Elayne, her brother Gawyn, half-brother Galad, gleeman Thom, and even Lan and Moraine (and other new characters introduced in the story's pages) are all integral parts of the story and the fight against the Dark One。 Mat and Perrin, specifically, have had their own struggles, but The Dragon Reborn allows them to work through those issues for good and ill。 Mat truly comes into his own as a unique character, and Perrin gets great scenes, too, especially when he works in a blacksmith shop。 The latter is not an action section, but works on so many levels to deepen his character, just as Mat's own internal battle with his narcissistic tendencies make for great reading。And it's only going to get better, as the next book delivers on the promise of what was established in these first three books。 While The Dragon Reborn could have run longer, giving us more scenes with everyone, and while Jordan does juggles multiple shifting viewpoints in the climactic chapters, it is still a lean and tightly written with just enough to keep turning pages。 。。。more

Another great volume in this series and as always I had some great time reading this one more book in the series The Wheel of Time WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!I cannot believe I said this but Egwene started to warm to me even if she still is not one of most favorite female character at all。 I find Robert Jordan female characters way too strong, in the sense that their independency in some way made men as fools and I don't like it one bit。 I think is the main reason I have with this serie Another great volume in this series and as always I had some great time reading this one more book in the series The Wheel of Time WARNING CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!I cannot believe I said this but Egwene started to warm to me even if she still is not one of most favorite female character at all。 I find Robert Jordan female characters way too strong, in the sense that their independency in some way made men as fools and I don't like it one bit。 I think is the main reason I have with this series。 When you see that type of behavior where female as Moiraine and Nynaeve are literally bossy and rude towards the boys , I can let it go because that is how they are but when the author apply this kind of sexism on boys by Egwene, Elayne, Faile and even Min a little, you have a very toxic kind of sexism。 In this world the women act like men are stupid because they want to protect them, they have no knowledge and them are the only wise ones because God forbid men to have brains and their own agency! 😑 I just hate how the author made his female character be so rude to the men of the story。Another example of this abusive and ungrateful attitude was how after Mat journeys and try desperately to find Egwene, Nynaeve and Elayne because he finds out by accident that some people want to kill them , our 3 ladies are so ungrateful and start treating him like a little boy that is just an idiot。 I mean really after he traveled and fought for them because he wanted to save them, the girls literally behave in an ungrateful way towards him and go overfeminine just because they have powers and him doesn't。 I really felt sorry for Mat。。。Speaking of Mat, finally we have a POV from his side and I totally loved him, his selfishness at first sight that melts away to his more heroic and selfless side is beautiful showed in this book。 Mat is not a good boy but he is that kind of character that beside his naughtiness and greedy acts he has a good heart and loved reading about such a grey character。 Loved also Perrin and how he literally falls in love with Faile, well I still think it was a little fast but you can see that Perrin is that kind of guy who looks huge and hard at the outside but he is a softy inside 🥺 cannot wait to see more of him and Faile。。。I was disappointed that Rand has not had a more large POV or even chapters dedicated to him and the last battle it came kind rushed in my opinion but at least Mat and Perrin shined in this volume so I am not that upset。 Moiraine kinda pissed me in this volume with all her secrets and bossy attitude towards Loyal, Zarine , Perrin and even Lan 。 I seriously didn't thought this woman will piss me but I think it was because I had enough of the bossy attitude this women had towards the men。I felt like subtly Mat liked Elayne but how she treated him I feel good that Mat will marry another woman because he deserves one that truly respects him and treat him like a human being and with this I conclude my review and I cannot wait to start the forth volume! 。。。more

Look, this book has problems。 I will not lie that at some point I stopped enjoying it and had to put it down, a real contrast to The Great Hunt which really had me spell bound for most of it。 It's not a bad book, I'm just starting to think the general pacing of classic fantasy isn't my taste。 But I can totally understand why people adore this series。 I quite like it too。 Give it a read, make up your own mind。 It's just the pacing for me really really damaged my enjoyment of the book。 Look, this book has problems。 I will not lie that at some point I stopped enjoying it and had to put it down, a real contrast to The Great Hunt which really had me spell bound for most of it。 It's not a bad book, I'm just starting to think the general pacing of classic fantasy isn't my taste。 But I can totally understand why people adore this series。 I quite like it too。 Give it a read, make up your own mind。 It's just the pacing for me really really damaged my enjoyment of the book。 。。。more

I do have a problem with the Wheel of Time pacing but for the love of me I still can't give it less than 5 stars (I hope we'll keep it that way)。Mat has become so entertaining, finally it's his time to shine after two books spent sick and moping and boy did all the scenes he was in deliver。 Perrin is a great character as well, a loveable giant, and his scenes, especially the one where he was facing what he might become were just so well done。 I was also completely fine with the fact that Rand wa I do have a problem with the Wheel of Time pacing but for the love of me I still can't give it less than 5 stars (I hope we'll keep it that way)。Mat has become so entertaining, finally it's his time to shine after two books spent sick and moping and boy did all the scenes he was in deliver。 Perrin is a great character as well, a loveable giant, and his scenes, especially the one where he was facing what he might become were just so well done。 I was also completely fine with the fact that Rand was not present nearly the entire book but we still managed to see the aftermath of his passing, that was super cool。 Nothing to say about the girl trio。 I mean it was fun at the beginning but at the same time they were annoying with all the bickering and sulkiness and boy Nynaeve sometimes really pisses me off with her high and mighty attitude。The dream world is sometimes a hit and sometimes a miss, and I think it is all plotting towards something but man, every so often it just drags and drags seemingly to no end。I am so intrigued and fascinated by Aiel and can't wait to know more of them and I really hope we'll manage to travel there as well。 Thank the lords we didn't spend so much time with the children now, they annoy me to no end, and I hope their lack of presence will last。That ending was pretty dope, not gonna lie, but I really hope it's not a thing with Jordan having all the characters go apart and reunite at the end, we need some new plot devices。 What can I say though, time to dig into the fourth book! 。。。more
